LIMELIGHT

What is it?

Laser Limelight is a form of laser – specifically IPL. This type of laser helps to remove freckles and solar lentigos (age spots). It works by using multiple wavelengths of light to destroy any hyperpigmentation on the face. Both red and brown spots can be removed using this type of laser.

Key Elements/Benefits:
  • Quick treatment time (30 mins)
  • Removal of unwanted pigmentation
    • Melasma
    • Age spots
    • Freckles
  • Minimal downtime (spots become darker after a few days, however this can be covered with makeup)
  • 4 – 6 treatments are required depending on patient response
Who can have laser limelight?

Only certain skin types can have limelight, anyone with an olive complexion or darker skin type – (we refer to these as Fitzpatricks 4 – 5) cannot have this treatment due to the amount of melanin in their skin. We always recommend having a skin check to ensure no spots are cancerous before going ahead with the treatment.

Is there downtime?

Yes – your pigmented spots will become darker over the course of 24 hours post treatment and this often lasts up to 1 week. For the following week post Limelight your darkened spots will slowly slough off the skin. Makeup can be worn the following day, however we often find the spots can still be seen through the makeup.

How many treatments are required?

A series of 4 – 6 treatments should be performed about 2 – 4 weeks apart. Once the pigmentation has been removed we recommend an annual touch up of 1 -2 treatments throughout the Winter.

How long will the results last?

Results can last up to 2 years depending on your lifestyle. For people who spend a lot of time outdoors, the results may not last as long. The annual touch up’s will prevent the pigment from worsening over the Summer months. SPF and hats are always recommended when having this procedure performed – the less sun exposure the longer your results will last.

Prior to treatment:

Depending on your skin type a test patch will be performed – this is to determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate.

During the treatment:

Before the actual procedure all traces of makeup will be removed. A clear gel will be applied to the face and one to two passes of the laser will be performed covering the entire face – each time the laser pulses there will be a flash of light, however protective eye goggles are worn to ensure there is no optical impairment.

After the treatment:

Your skin will feel like a mild sunburn, some patients experience a tingling sensation also. Often we will use the LED light to reduce the inflammation and reduce the swelling. Darkening of spots can be seen a few minutes after the procedure is finished. SPF is applied and we recommend to avoid sun exposure for the following weeks.

Potential risks and side effects:

With any form of laser there comes some risks and side effects. Redness and swelling are the most common side effects, this will subside within 24 – 48 hours. Darkening of spots will occur – and this is exactly what we want, the darker the spots become after treatment the better the results. Rarer side effects include hypopigmentation, blisters or infection. It is always important to ensure you are having a medical professional perform your treatments to ensure these risks are minimised

What’s the cost of Laser Limelight?
  • Full face: $300
  • Full face and neck $400
  • Face, neck, chest: $500
  • LED post treatment is complimentary.

In the Winter months some of our clients combine this treatment with Laser Genesis, this is called 2D laser therapy and helps reduce fine lines, reduce diffuse redness and remove pigmentation spots – adding the laser genesis gives extra anti ageing benefits.
